2024 Grant Pursual (Community Innovation Center)

Following guidance from the Mayor and Council after a citizen's petition, the city has initiated grant searches and funding discussions to kickstart this endeavor. The center's design includes provisions for an innovation lab, recreational areas, a community kitchen, a business incubator, and spaces tailored for senior and youth activities. This initiative, currently in the planning stage, aims to bridge crucial infrastructure gaps, fostering social cohesion, healthier lifestyles, and economic resilience.

The Douglas Multi-Generational Community Innovation Center Project is dedicated to creating a dynamic and inclusive environment that promotes learning, innovation, and recreation for people of all ages. By repurposing a municipal building, this transformative project seeks to address the needs of our rural, economically disadvantaged community.

Of particular importance to our community is the introduction of essential services such as broadband internet access and flexible community spaces, essential for bridging the digital divide and fostering inclusivity. This Multi-Generational Community Innovation Center will offer a variety of activities, including multi-purpose basketball courts and an indoor soccer field, significantly enriching recreational opportunities. Ultimately, this project aims to enhance social unity, promote healthier lifestyles, and stimulate economic growth, ensuring that every resident benefits from this initiative.
